WSP is a global design, engineering and management consultancy company, specialising in property,environment, transport and infrastructure projects.

WSP has grown rapidly from a European organisation to a global presence. This has meant that sites around the world, including offices in more remote areas, require security support outside European working hours. The organic development of the company, together with an agin information security estate, has resulted ininconsistent filtering, intrusion detection and firewall deployment across the business.
During 2009, WSP reviewed its firewall capabilities. Due to difficulties with the management of the existing system, and the pressures on the small team responsible for the firewall, the full functionality of the solution was not being exploited. There was no intrusion detection system (IDS) in place and the costs of renewing service agreements, hardware and subscriptions to support new software was high. A decision was made to replace the aging platform and look for a more efficient and costeffective option. Solution
WSP selected a modern firewall solution from Palo Alto, together with their Swedish reseller, Radpoint. This solution was chosen as it offered much greater functionality than the existing system - delivering an up-todate firewall for less than half the cost. It allowed WSP to remove hard-tomanage proxies and consolidateits web filtering into the firewall, thus streamlining the management process. Furthermore, the financial headroom achieved enabled WSP to select a managed security service for the solution, without straining the budget. Secode was chosen as the Managed Service Provider to deliver secure perimeter protection for WSP. Secodehad a proven track record in workingwith application-aware firewalls and was well placed to take responsibility for the Palo Alto solution and all its functionality. Most importantly, however, Secode offered state of the art 24/7 monitoring of the estate - thus taking care of many of the pain points that WSP had historically experienced with out-of-hours support. www.wsp.com
