SECODE STOP VISHING TEST:

VISHING - V for Voice and Phishing combined

Case

(Secode Maastricht February 4th. 2008) An off-shoot of Phishing, 'Vishing' is the new trend in cyber crime. Vishing attackers steal personal and financial details of unsuspecting victims using the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls. With VoIP and IP telephony penetrating markets, vishing frauds are likely to be a trend in 2008.

Vishing is very hard for legal authorities to monitor or trace. To protect themselves, consumers are advised to be highly suspicious when receiving often automated messages directing them to call and provide credit card or bank numbers. Rather than provide any information, the consumer is advised to contact their bank or credit card company directly to verify the validity of the message.

The deliverables are advanced Intrusion Prevention services and state of the art hardware. The services include active intrusion prevention, prevention of malicious code entering the network, and it-security policy enforcement. The contract value is NOK 3 million, and is an important win for Secode showing that the company's early research and service offering in this segment has been successful.

Secode was the first north European Managed Security Services (MSS) company succeeding in gaining commercial contracts involving the IPS technology and a managed service offering as early as in 2004. Our stay-ahead has given us a very competitive edge, and the market has gained confidence in the service offering based on Secode's commercial experience within this particular field. It is important to be awarded this contract in open competition, and with prominent customers, as potential new customers are watching this market continuously.

Threats and Trends April 2008

(Secode Oslo, 22.04.08 Linda Walbeck-Olsen)The Alert Statistic shows that most alerts behind attacks have their origin outside the customers net this month. The attacks are directed at customers, mostly towards financial intentions.

There has been an increase in the number of reconnaissance attacks this month, mostly because there was a great deal of searches towards VNC in the middle of the month. These searches have also had an impact on the statistics for the country of origin.

Spamming attempts and activity from Internet worms remains at a stable level.

This months focus:

Focus of the Month is taking a short look at piracy.
